Comfortable family home in Kuala Lumpur

About Us

A quieter kind of support for your family.

Penaung started because arranging reliable, familiar home support for an older relative should not be complicated. We exist to make that easier.

Our Story

Why Penaung began

The name Penaung comes from the Malay word for shelter or shade — a quiet presence that offers comfort without drawing attention to itself. That is precisely what we set out to provide.

We started in Kuala Lumpur after noticing how difficult it was for working families — especially those with relatives scattered across the Klang Valley or abroad — to put together any kind of reliable, consistent day-to-day support for an older parent or grandparent at home. The options either felt impersonal, required navigating a lot of bureaucracy, or simply were not built around how Malaysian households actually work.

We began with a small team and a simple idea: home support should feel familiar, not clinical. The visit should be something an older person looks forward to, not something they tolerate. The family should be kept informed without needing to constantly check in. And the whole arrangement should be easy to adjust as circumstances shift — because they always do.

Our Mission

What guides us

Unhurried presence

We do not rush. Every arrangement is paced around the person being supported, not around a checklist.

Family as partners

We keep families informed at every step — brief, clear updates that give peace of mind without adding to anyone's workload.

Rooted in local context

Our team understands the rhythms of Kuala Lumpur — the neighbourhoods, the local languages spoken at home, and what a respectful visit looks like here.

Honest about what we do

We are clear about the scope of each service from the start. No overpromising, no jargon — just a straightforward description of what to expect.

How We Work

Our standards and approach

Companion screening

Every companion is interviewed in person and reviewed through character references before joining the team. We do not send someone into a home we would not feel comfortable sending to our own family.

Information handled with care

Family details, household information, and scheduling data are kept private and not shared with anyone outside the arrangement. We follow straightforward data practices and are transparent about what we store and why.

Regular arrangement reviews

We check in with families after the first few sessions and at regular intervals to see whether the arrangement is working well and whether any adjustments would help.

Consistent end-of-visit notes

After each visit or errand, a brief summary is sent to the designated family contact. The format is simple and easy to read — no lengthy reports, just the information that matters.

Scope clearly defined

We are honest about what each service includes and what it does not. Our companions provide social and logistical support — we do not undertake activities that fall under regulated professional categories.

Accessible when you need us

Questions and changes to arrangements can be directed to our team by phone or email during office hours. We aim to respond to all messages within one working day.

Home companionship and coordination for families in Kuala Lumpur

Penaung was built around a simple observation: most families in Malaysia want their older relatives to be comfortable, connected, and well looked after at home — but putting that in place takes time, local knowledge, and reliable people. Working adults with full schedules, or family members living some distance away, often find it difficult to cover everything themselves.

Our three services address three of the most common gaps. The Technology Connection service helps older relatives stay in touch with family through video calls and messaging, without the frustration of learning new tools alone. The Daytime Companionship Programme fills the quieter hours of the day with warm conversation and gentle activity, on the days a family chooses. The Errand and Appointment Logistics service takes the friction out of grocery runs, parcel collection, and transport to scheduled outings.

All of our work is based in Kuala Lumpur. Our team is familiar with the city's neighbourhoods, transport options, and the practicalities of home visits here. We work in English and Malay and are happy to discuss arrangements in either language. If you are wondering whether one of our services might suit your family's situation, a short conversation with our team is a good place to start.
